Integrated Analytics Environment Makes Hadoop Accessible to Broader Set of Big Data Analysts

Cupertino, CA – September 21, 2011 – Karmasphere™, a Big Data Intelligence company, today announced availability of a new version of its Karmasphere Analyst Big Data analytics product.  The new release offers data professionals a workflow to Access, Assemble, Analyze and Act upon Big Data on Hadoop.  Featuring an updated highly integrated interface, Karmasphere Analyst continues to emphasize ease-of-use, interoperability with all distributions of Hadoop on premises and in the Cloud, and insulation from the nuts-and-bolts of Hadoop through use of familiar SQL.

“Our recent Benchmark Research ‘Hadoop and Information Management’ indicated that while the majority of enterprises using Hadoop did so for advanced analytics, they lacked the skills and training in-house to take full advantage of Hadoop’s strategic benefits,” said David Menninger, Vice President and Research Director, Ventana Research. “The guided workflow and ease of use of the new Karmasphere Analyst release is designed to help organizations overcome these obstacles.”

Previous approaches to Big Data analytics required that users possess deep understanding of Hadoop and query languages, and/or have access to developers with that knowledge.  The latest version of Karmasphere Analyst extends the reach of Big Data Analytics with an intuitive graphical UI and power features such as point-and-click navigation of Big Data that automatically generates SQL.  The product is optimized to guide data analysts through the Karmasphere “four A’s” workflow:

Access – Connect to any Hadoop cluster on premises or in the cloud, adding metadata to describe Hadoop clusters and other data sources

Assemble – Gather, organize and prepare any kind of data; unstructured, semi-structured, structured, including compressed data formats, on the fly, to perform analytics

Analyze – Query and interact with data on Hadoop, learn and iterate to discover patterns and trends for insight, by letting analysts:

  • Create new SQL queries or leverage pre-existing ones from other team members
  • Save and share query histories along the path to insight, and later retrace their steps
  • Filter and sort query results using flexible criteria, generating re-usable SQL “behind the scenes”
  • Format and visualize results into pie, line, bar, scatter and other chart types for additional analysis

Act – Deliver actionable, transformative insights to people and businesses

“Karmasphere provides the essential layer of software to extract intelligence from Big Data in Hadoop across on-premise and cloud implementations,” said Gail Ennis, Karmasphere CEO. “Karmasphere Analyst streamlines the interaction with Big Data using an optimized workflow that will make it easier for companies to become data-driven enterprises and get the “aha” insights that will transform their businesses.”
