Karmasphere Joins IBM To Help Clients Adopt Big Data Analytics

Karmasphere Integrates Its Big Data Analytics Suite With IBM InfoSphere BigInsights Software

Cupertino, CA – May 20, 2011 – Karmasphere™, a Big Data Analytics company, today announced it is joining with IBM (NYSE:IBM) to help enterprise clients integrate and analyze traditional business data with a growing volume of unstructured data using Apache Hadoop-based software.

Karmasphere has integrated its Big Data Analytics software including Karmasphere Studio for developers and Karmasphere Analyst for data and business analysts with IBM’s BigInsights software. As a result, joint clients can integrate and analyze structured data found in databases along with unstructured data – such as text, video, audio, images, social media and click streams — without changing the native format of the data.

“Karmasphere is a key partner in IBM’s Big Data ecosystem that supports developers, analysts and business users with unprecedented ease-of-use for analyzing data on Hadoop,” said Rob Thomas, Vice President of Business Development, IBM Information Management. “IBM’s long standing commitment to the open community and full embrace of Hadoop will help Karmasphere deliver a new class of Big Data applications for IBM software.”

Born in IBM Research and powered by Hadoop, BigInsights software is the result of a four-year effort of more than 200 IBM Research scientists. The software provides a framework for large scale parallel processing and scalable storage for terabyte to petabytes-level data.  The latest release includes unstructured text analytics and indexing that allows users to analyze rapidly changing data formats and types on the fly. Additional new features include data governance and security features, developer tools, and enterprise integration to make it easier for clients to take advantage of a new class of Big Data analytics applications.

“Clients are looking for help to manage and integrate the volume, variety and velocity of Big Data across new and existing IT infrastructures,” said Gail Ennis, CEO, Karmasphere. “The combination of IBM and Karmasphere software can help clients unlock more value from their data assets using Hadoop-based analytics to uncover new trends and drive business growth.”
