Karmasphere Products Unique in Fostering Sharing and Re-use for Big Data Analytics

Cupertino, CA – April 21, 2011 – Karmasphere™, a Big Data Analytics company, today announced availability of a new version (1.3) of Karmasphere Analyst. Karmasphere Analyst provides unprecedented access and insight into Big Data on Hadoop clusters using familiar SQL queries in an easy-to-use graphical user interface.  The new version fosters collaboration among analysts and developers, increasing productivity and efficiency and shortening time-to-insight. Karmasphere enables this kind of collaboration by delivering Karmasphere Analyst and also Karmasphere Studio (a solution for Hadoop developers) on the Karmasphere Big Data Analytics Platform™.

“Big Data Analytics requires developers and analysts to work more closely than ever before,” commented Abe Taha, VP Engineering, Karmasphere. “Previously, these teams worked in separate silos, isolated by the products they use.  These new features and future capabilities of Karmasphere products will help teams overcome challenges to sharing content, frameworks, algorithms and applications.  Better communication and greater re-use means higher success rates for Big Data projects.”

Karmasphere Analyst 1.3 fosters collaboration by letting Big Data analysts and developers share configurations of Analyst and other Karmasphere Big Data Analytics Platform components, including product settings, user defined functions and query histories.  This level of sharing and reuse between components in the Karmasphere products and also between developers and analysts is unique among Big Data analytics offerings.

Karmasphere Analyst 1.3 is also easier to use.  It automatically completes Hive query strings as they are enter ed, reducing errors and flattening the Hive/Hadoop learning curve.  Moreover, this new version of Analyst streamlines migration of unstructured data from web server logs and other sources by filtering out comments and other extraneous information, resulting in cleaner query results and faster insight into Big Data.

Key Facts

  • Karmasphere Analyst 1.3 fosters collaboration among Big Data developers and analysts by
    • Letting users import/export/share configurations and query histories (greater re-use)
    • Simplifying creation and insertion of user-defined functions into customized queries (previously required command line interface)
  • Advances in ease of use and user experience
    • Auto-completion of Hive query strings – flattens learning curve and reduces errors
    • Prefiltering of popular log-file formats (Apache, WTC, IIs) – streamlines migration of unstructured Big Data for analysis with Karmasphere Analyst and Apache Hadoop
