Integrated Offerings Streamline Hadoop Analytics with Amazon Elastic MapReduce

Cupertino, CA – November 1, 2011 – Karmasphere™, a Big Data Intelligence company, today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Amazon Web Services, making their software for Big Data analytics available on a “Pay as You Go” basis directly through the Amazon Elastic MapReduce service. By combining the scalability and flexibility of Amazon Elastic MapReduce with the ease-of-use and graphical interface of Karmasphere, enterprises can quickly and cost-effectively deliver valuable insights from their data.

Enterprises can launch new or access existing Amazon Elastic MapReduce job flows directly through the Karmasphere Analyst or Karmasphere Studio products, all with hourly pricing and no upfront fees or long-term commitments. Organizations will benefit from a low cost of entry, no product lock-in, and a single payment process through Amazon Web Services.

The merging of Big Data and the Cloud is fundamentally impacting how organizations do business. Forrester Research, in their report “2011 Top Ten IAAS Cloud Predictions for I&O Leaders” advised data analysts to adopt cloud based analytics tools if they aren’t already, due to the potential impact on the bottom line.

“The integrated Amazon and Karmasphere Pay-As-You-Go solution offers a faster, easier and more cost-effective alternative for analyzing Big Data,” said Gail Ennis, chief executive officer of Karmasphere.  “With this first of its kind turnkey solution, you don’t have to build-out the technical infrastructure for Apache Hadoop, everything is all there.  You just sign up and get going.”

The recent ‘Hadoop and Information Management’ Benchmark research study conducted by Ventana Research revealed that the enterprises surveyed “are overall moving toward off- premises deployments for large-scale data management. About one-third (37%) of organizations currently have off-premises deployments, but more than three-fourths (78%) are planning them within 12 months”.

“Amazon Web Services allows us to focus on delivering value to our customers through our digital marketing platform rather than investing in building and managing our own infrastructure,” said Vivek S. Vaidya, Co-Founder and CTO of Krux Digital. “Now with Pay-As-You-Go Data Analytics from Karmasphere we can deliver Big Data insights using a graphical interface and familiar tools, all while only paying for the resources we use.”

Amazon Elastic MapReduce is a web service that enables businesses, researchers, data analysts, and developers to easily and cost-effectively process vast amounts of data. It utilizes a hosted Hadoop framework running on the web-scale infrastructure of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Using Amazon Elastic MapReduce, customers  can instantly provision as much or as little capacity as needed to perform data-intensive tasks for applications such as web indexing, data mining, log file analysis, data warehousing, machine learning, financial analysis, scientific simulation, and bioinformatics research.

“Enterprises of all types and sizes use Amazon Elastic MapReduce to lower the time, effort, and cost of using Hadoop to get more value out of their data,” said Peter Sirota, General Manager of Amazon Elastic MapReduce. “We are excited to provide streamlined access to Karmasphere to make it even easier organizations to generate insights from their exploding volumes of structured and unstructured data.”

The Karmasphere Big Data Analytics product line includes Karmasphere Analyst, which provides data analysts immediate entry to structured and unstructured data on Hadoop, through SQL and other familiar languages, so that they can make ad-hoc queries, interact with the results, and iterate – without the aid of IT. Karmasphere Studioprovides developers that support analytic teams a graphical environment to learn Hadoop, develop custom analytic algorithms and systematize the creation of meaningful datasets the analysts find so that their results can be integrated into business processes and applications.

Karmasphere and Amazon Web Services recorded a webinar that outlines the economic advantages of Big Data analysis in the cloud, describes how it streamlines implementation, and demonstrates the integrated solution. To view the webinar, go to: http://www.karmasphere.com/amazonwebinar
